The thriving market town of Newcastle-under-Lyme is a shoppers delight to visit on market days. The town centre hosts a variety markets six days a week. Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays are host to a general market with around 80 stalls selling a wide range of products including traditional fruit and vegetables to perfumes, clothes and furniture. Tuesdays are the Antiques and Collectables market and The flea market on a Thursday gives you the opportunity to pick up a bargain. Stalls are packed with hidden treasures at very reasonable prices. Also every third Friday of each month is a Farmers Market where you can buy local, fresh produce including meats, cheeses, wines and fruit.
The recently developed 'Castle Walk' with its traditional cobbled street and Iron Market are home to a variety of high street stores including Burton, New Look and Wilkinson. Sitting amongst the shops are traditional cafes and a tea room where you can take a rest from shopping and enjoy a pot of tea and a scone. The more traditional cafés are also comletmentd by more cosmopolitan cafes such as Java and Costa Café where you can sip on an Ice tea or Vanilla Latte with al-fresco seating available.
The New Vic Theatre was Europe's first purpose-built theatre in the round. It is just outside the town centre and offers a full programme of entertainment, whether modern or classic plays or impressive concert performances.
The Borough Museum and Art Gallery depicts the civic history of the Borough of Newcastle under Lyme and an authentic, life-size Victorian street-scene whilst the art gallery hosts work by local and national artists as well as 'travelling' exhibitions.
