Canal towpath walks

Stoke on Trent is fortunate to have two canals open to navigation running through its centre. The Trent & Mersey, strongly supported by Josiah Wedgwood throughout construction, still passes by Stoke's traditional potteries and, poignantly, the Wedgwood Visitor Centre. Visitors can enjoy a relaxing waterside stroll and watch the colourful narrowboats making their way through the locks en-route to Stoke Summit. Head for the China Garden pub at Etruria and make a detour on the way back via the Etruria staircase locks on the Caldon Canal.
The Caldon Canal, a strong contender for the title of England's most scenic waterway, also starts in Stoke on Trent.
