The Potteries

Stoke-on-Trent's Waterways and Canal Network

Stoke-on-Trent is fortunate to have two canals open to navigation running through its centre. The Trent & Mersey, strongly supported by Josiah Wedgwood throughout construction, still passes by Stoke-on-Trent's traditional potteries and, poignantly, the Wedgwood Visitor Centre. Residents and boaters alike can enjoy a relaxing waterside stroll and watch the colourful narrowboats making their way through the locks en-route to Stoke Summit. Head for the China Garden pub at the Festival Park Marina and make a detour on the way back via the Etruria staircase locks on the Caldon Canal.
