Staffordshire Hoard, Stoke-on-Trent
Earlier in 2010 The Potteries Museum & Art Gallery hosted a display of 80 pieces from the largest ever-find of Anglo-Saxon treasure, The Staffordshire Hoard. The display proved so popular that a display of 80 pieces will continue to be displayed as a permenant exhibition at the museum. From July 21st 2012 an exciting new exhibition will set it in its historical context and reveal the story of its discovery and conservation. More than a hundred specially chosen pieces will be displayed in all their dazzling glory. On show together for the first time in Britain, these breathtakingly beautiful examples of delicate Saxon metalwork have intrigued archaeologists and forced historians to question what they thought they knew about England in the seventh century. Every expert has a different opinion; what's yours?
Entry into the Potteries Museum & Art Gallery and the Staffordshire Hoard exhibition is free of charge.
A £3.3m price tag was placed on the Staffordshire Hoard and the total collection is 1,800 gold and some silver Anglo-Saxon artefacts and the amount makes the Staffordshire Hoard the most valuable treasure find ever.

After your visit to the Potteries Museum take the short walk up to the City Centre and have a browse around the shops and bars of the Cultural Quarter. Why not head to the award winning Wedgwood Museum and Visitor Centre. The Museum houses the majority of the Wedgwood ceramic archive and art and has - for the first time in history - brought the entire Wedgwood collection together under the same roof in an eye catching and creative way.
The history and heritage of the area is well preserved at numerous locations across the City, most notably the Gladstone Pottery Museum, the most complete Victorian pottery factory in the UK and has the unique Flushed with Pride showing the fascinating history of the toilet.
The Potteries very own China Experience features a remarkable array of factory shops where you can purchase anything from fine china dinner services, intricate figurines, table and cookware, to mugs, tiles, jugs and jewellery all at great prices and from the world-renowned brands of Wedgwood, Portmeirion, Emma Bridgewater, Aynsley and Moorcroft to name a few....
A factory tour at Moorcroft will show just how much craftsmanship goes into making this stunning art pottery and you can get up close and personal with the skilled staff to find out more about this fabulous indsutry.
For something completely different visit the Trentham Estate, see the Italian Winter gardens at the top of the mile long lake, shopping village with over 70 exclusive retail outlets, cafes, restaurants and tea rooms on the 800 acre estate.
